Dear Friends and Family,
On October 17, 2010, I will be competing in the Nike Women's Half Marathon in San Francisco, California. Luckily, I am not doing this on my own. I have joined the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team in Training Program. Through this program, I will be coached to achieve my greatest potential.
More important than my physical condidtioning to the program, it is our commitment to raise funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to continue the battle against Leukemia and related blood cancers. These diseases strike some 107,000 Americans each year and acute leukemia is the number one cause of death of children under the age of 15. This program is the world's largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education, and patient services.
One of the greatest contributors of the Society is their commitment to research. Significant progress has been made in the treatment of this disease, and researchers are now optimistic that they will find a cure within 6 years! This is something to look forward to! Because not only will I be competing for my Husband, who is a cancer survivor, I will be competing in honor of my family members who have battled this awful disease.
Research is key to finding a cure, and funding for research is essential. I need your help, I have set a personal goal to raise $3,900 to help with research and fight this terrible disease. As I compete in my event, you will be with me in spirit, and your sponsorship will inspire us to push stronger and faster to the finish line and support a great cause.
